Meet Our Founders
The inception of the MTX Bandits stems from the unwavering passion that brothers John and Desmond Shorter share for sports, youth development, and community enrichment. Raised in a football-centric environment under their father's coaching tutelage, the duo excelled at Lake Highlands High School before John pursued a collegiate football career at the University of North Texas and Desmond at Tyler Junior College. Post-graduation, John's coaching endeavors led to the establishment of D1 Training in Mesquite, TX, where Desmond, now a highly esteemed coach, joined forces. Motivated by their children's sporting enthusiasm, late-night discussions between the brothers birthed a nonprofit entity dedicated to fostering youth sports, thus giving rise to the MTX Bandits. With a steadfast commitment to guiding young men towards their full potential on and off the field, John and Desmond embody a relentless dedication to their team and community.
